Over two decades removed from setting records for the South Carolina swimming and diving team, Rick Havekost is still making a huge impact for the Gamecocks.

His gift to the University largely allowed the athletic administration to completely renovate the locker rooms at the Carolina Natatorium, located in the Blatt. Both the men’s and women’s locker rooms were expanded to provide more than 4,000 square feet of new lockers, an updated shower and dressing facilities, along with new amenities for the coaching staff. New graphics on the walls of the locker rooms added some spice while also celebrating the history of South Carolina swimming and diving.

For Havekost, who the locker rooms were renamed for, it was a long overdue transformation that he says will pay dividends for the program.

“When Ray Tanner took over as Athletics Director, he toured the facilities with McGee Moody, the head coach, and he knew within minutes that it was a total embarrassment,” Havekost said. “That launched a campaign to find a way to pay for the upgrades.”
