Read is back for the fall!
South Carolina Athletics would like to invite you to participate in fall’s 2025 Read with the Gamecocks. We’re excited to be a part of encouraging your students to know the importance of literacy.
What is Read with the Gamecocks?
Read with the Gamecocks is an incentive-based reading program developed by South Carolina Athletics to promote the importance of literacy in elementary and middle school-aged students.
Note: due to NCAA compliance regulations, only students in grades K – 8 are allowed to participate.
Through Read with the Gamecocks, we encourage elementary and middle school teachers to challenge their students to keep a log of all reading done outside of the classroom over a two-week period. In an effort to have this program better fit classroom goals and curriculum, teachers will set their own goals for their classrooms (ex: number of pages, number of books, number of minutes read). Every student that reaches their classroom goal will receive a voucher for two tickets (one student, one guardian) to one Gamecock men’s basketball game and one Gamecock women’s basketball game. Teachers that participate in the program will also receive a voucher for two tickets to both basketball games.
Fall Calendar
Participation window is a 10-week time period open from August 25th to October 31st for teachers to complete their two weeks. Registration will be available after the window begins.
The schedule for Read with the Gamecocks is as follows:
- August 25: Participation window opens
- Teachers may register at any time and choose which two weeks (14 consecutive days) to participate
- Once two weeks is completed, totals can be collected and submitted to through the Totals Form below even if the window hasn’t closed yet
- October 13: Last day of registration
- Registration form taken off website at end of day
- October 31: Last day students can return logs to teachers/coordinators
- November 3: Last day teachers/coordinators can submit logs
- November 14: Vouchers will be emailed out
- November/December: Read with the Gamecock Basketball Games
